Despite more and more package tour operators scaling back their offerings in the Spanish Costas during the past couple of years, mainland Spain is still proving to be an extremely popular destination for millions of visitors. According to Ignacio Vasallo, the UK director of the Spanish Tourist Office, however, 2010 is likely to see a continuing trend towards independent travel as opposed to the more traditional package holidays.

With so many delights on offer, some have even taken to making a pilgrimage to this vibrant Spanish village just to experience this annual event.

With the world economic crisis making its impact felt across just about every industry and country, the travel business has inevitably seen its fair share of casualties. One of the areas worst hit during the summer of 2009 in southern Spain’s Costa del Sol region, as well as elsewhere in Spain, Portugal and France, was the car rental business, and now warnings are emerging that the same situation could arise this summer too and that those wishing to secure their car hire needs should do so well in advance.
