For anyone staying in the Marbella region of the Costa del Sol over the weekend of the 11th to the 13th June, the now-famous Mijas International Festival is certainly not to be missed. With so many delights on offer, some have even taken to making a pilgrimage to this vibrant Spanish village just to experience this annual event.
Although Mijas has long since been renowned for its local festivals and celebrations, the Mijas International Festival figures as one of the top attractions in its busy events calendar. Described as a fusion of the Mijas International Day and the Blues Festival, it offers lovers of fine food, drink and music from all over the world a weekend never to be forgotten.
Whether visitors are interested in sampling the unusual beers of India or the barbecues of Uruguay and Argentina, they will not be disappointed. With a stall for each country serving tapas-sized plates of the country’s cuisine and participants dressed in their traditional costumes, the festival is a hugely colourful event which appeals to all the senses and all the nations.
For some, the past couple of years have seen the Mijas International Festival stand out for its spectacular homage to ‘the blues’, and indeed in some places you will see it referred to as the Mijas International Blues Festival, in recognition of the superb quality of the many bands which take part. Artists from all around the world perform in the open air auditorium, as well as at other locations within the village, and blues fans can expect a real musical treat.
Located just inland from the coastal resort of Fuengirola, the village of Mijas lies just 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) north east of Marbella and, for visitors in June, the few minutes’ trip is one that truly shouldn’t be missed to experience this popular and hugely enjoyable event.
If you plan to visit the Mijas Festival in June and require accommodation, please consider the Alanda Club Marbella Hotel which is convenient located for everything the Costa del Sol has to offer.
